Xara Slideshow Widget - Not Loading

Hi All

Just moving over from Serif WebPlus to Xara Web Designer Premium - (used to use Acorn Computers from "year dot" so Xara was a familiar name )

I am trying to use the Xara Slideshow Widget from the Design Gallery, but it just sits with a configuration page behind a "loading" circling icon and nothing happens. If I close it I get " Unable to find the HTML code for the Widget .... ".

Any ideas anyone?

I have played with most of the other slide show widgets on the Design Gallery [ Some are very clever & fancy ]
but all I want is straight forward slideshow with Captions and Thumbnails. They seem to do only one or the other

I have tried adjusting page sizes in the slideshow HTMLs and adding text there and adding text on top of images, but all are ignored on saving the slideshow to the main page.
Is there a way of doing this, without editing the actual images to add captions?

Welcome to TalkGraphics - I just imported the slideshow widget to make sure there was nothing wrong and it imported OK.

Have you purchased the product or are you using the trial version?

And this is always worth a try. Close Web Designer. Then right click on the program icon and select Run as Administrator. This will either solve the problem or it won't and there is no need to do it again.

That did it - I got a request to log in and then it seems OK. Just about to play with it .

You could simply use Xara's built-in Photo pop-up function (Web Properties > Image).

In the past I have used Visual Slideshow (you can find various versions with a Google search).

It is very flexible and can be brought into Web Designer via a placeholder (a simple object into which you can add code that gets added to your site when you publish).

It is a bit of a PITA to get it into Web Designer but if you like it I can give you the steps.

But Gavin this does provide a slideshow: Show gallery browser controls.
I accept you probably want a slideshow that is not in a separate pop-up area.

I agree with Acorn. Here I've used Smart photo grid 2 and added image pop-up features. I find your slider the thum-nails to be far to small.
