How would you create this effectin XARA?

The attached image was included in a recent thread that asked how to recreate this illustration in Illustrator. And while there were no Illustrator-specific responses, there were several showing how it could be done in Xara.

So I have moved the original illustration to a neutral thread and you can use Xara or any other application.

The most interesting and challenging part of the image of course is the central color image. Which has some challenging fills.

I included my attempt. So let's see what you can do.
