    Default Fade to nothing

X365/Win10/64: Something that I've not discovered at this point. We'll say, as just an example I want to do a verticle rectangle, and I need a gradual fade to nothing around the edges. Feathering is not adequate and totally inadequate for that. I would appreciate any suggestions one might have. Thanks.

    1/Select the rectangle,
2/shift-click the no fill icon to set the outline to none,
3/ctrl-shft-c to paste at the same position
4/click the no fill icon to set the fill of the copied rectangle to none
5/select both rectangles, click the transparency icon and drag to desired effect

This is a little convoluted but it should work.

You can play around with Profiles to effect the degree of transparency

You could also try using a diamond transparency.

Frances, I tried that first off. It works but leaves a star shape in the middle.

You guys have put me on to a lot today. However, I'm not really there, so I'll have to play some to get it right. Trying all the instructions, but I know I'm doing something wrong. I will continue to play until I grasp the process.

I don't think you are going to get any better than that GG. That looks better than I could do.

On last variation on this topic.

Apply a linear REPEATING transparency and adjust the handles and profile to liking.
Group then repeat for the other dimension.

Might Fx/SoftenFilter/GaussianBlur be of use ?

    Maybe even applied multiple times.
