Images not visible Web Designer 11 Premium

Hi all,

I changed a couple of images on a page, but after loading they are not visible. When I open my page locally using Firefox it looks exactly as expected. But after I upload to my host, those images do not appear. I changed one word of text and reloaded--just to make sure that ftp was working--and that text change did appear. So I know that is not the issue. All images on that page are on the Mouse off layer, which is visible. Any ideas? Looking at this page http://barnquiltinfo.com/store.htm

I am at wits' end here and am getting no help from Xara support. They opened a ticket but have not given me any info. Hope someone here will know.

Since I am guessing this is the page that is giving you trouble is it possible for you to upload the Web Designer .web page file here?

Right click on the page and select Copy Page. Open a new document and Edit > Paste > Paste Page.

Name and save the page and then upload it here.

To upload, place the page where you can find it, I like to have it on the desktop, then under the text entry window in this forum, click, Go Advanced. The Click Manage Attachments. Locate the file then upload it.

It is easier to spot a problem if we have the actual Xara document.

OK I think I did this right. Attaching here the page that I am having a problem with. The three images at the top (calendar and books) are the ones that are not appearing online. Everything else is fine.

The images are showing elsewhere in http://barnquiltinfo.com/ but not in http://barnquiltinfo.com/store.htm.

Have you actually published http://barnquiltinfo.com/index_htm_files/2260.jpg, http://barnquiltinfo.com/index_htm_files/2262.jpg, http://barnquiltinfo.com/index_htm_files/2261.jpg somewhere into your uploaded site?

How did you upload the site?

I have uploaded the entire index_htm_files folder a couple of times, and I checked the uploaded folder. I use Filezilla to upload.

Not sure if this will help or muddy the waters, but the first time this happened, the image would "flash" on the screen when I reloaded the page, then disappear.

Somewhat related question--Not sure that this speaks to my issue but something I am having a hard time understanding--when I add an image to my website, I select from my "images" folder. But then Xara creates a new version of that image and places it in the index_htm_files folder and gives it a numerical name. Each time I work on the page, it seems that there is a new copy of the image in the index_htm_files folder. Is this how it is supposed to work?

I published this directly from Xara.

When you publish with Filezilla are you uploading all the files including the index_htm_files folder? This might be the problem.

Also, your banner image extends far off the page. Select it with the photo tool and crop it to the page edge. And your book and text block on the far right is off the page. I would select and move the two books on the right and their text blocks in towards the larger book and text block.

Xara names exported images with numbers which are referenced by the HTML documents. If you alter the name of the images in the index_htm_files folder, or add images but do not upload the index_htm_files folder this can cause the problem too. When you add images, often the existing image names change. So everything needs to be uploaded each time.

If you publish from within Web Designer and check the Fast Publish option in the Web Properties dialog then when you republish Web Designer only published the images and files that have changed.

The good news--I reloaded the entire site, and now the images are there! Still need to tighten up those things you mentioned, but my major issue is solved. I had reloaded the index_htm_files folder, and that didn't do the trick--no idea why. But when I resent the entire site, voila!

I have tried in vain to publish within Web Designer. That would certainly be easiest, as I would not have to worry about what had changed. When I try to publish via Web Designer, I get a message ftp error: timeout was reached. But it happens immediately. A different issue, and one that I can bring up in a new thread. But if you happen to know a quick something to check there, I would appreciate it. I would definitely like it better if I didn't have to export to a folder and then upload via Filezilla!

Try this and it will either work or it won't.

Close Web Designer. Right click on the program icon and select Run as Administrator. You just need to do this once. But it frequently resolves a bunch of issues.
