Default Anyone know of a good PNG compression software?

I've yet to figure out how to compress PNGs in Xara. Can anyone suggest good software for this? There are free online services available but I'd rather not upload my images to some site and not know what will happen to my images... if they'll be used elsewhere. I'm looking for software that will compress PNGs by 75 percent or so.

    Thanks

pretty sure xara does not do customised compression of PNG, stripping out metadata and stuff...

a quick google should throw some up such as : https://pnggauntlet.com/ but never used it, so can't recommend

I recommend and use for years http://www.xnview.com/en/xnview/ and happy with tihs multitalent. You can setup the compression for PNG in 10 steps. The software is free.

I am trying to understand what the purpose of compressing the PNG files are for?

Ernie, that is a nice find of xnview. I am going to take and give it a try.

    Hi Ray,
PNG is a lossles format and its compression works like zip, rar or others. The thing is, You can save storage value. The other thing is that a big compression rate needs more computing power.

Ernie, Thanks for sharing this resource. You say 10 steps for compression? I'm trying to figure it out but haven't so far. Also, I did find a website that compresses files 60-70 percent https://tinyjpg.com. The only drawback is not knowing if the files you compress will ever be shared elsewhere.

I use optipng and jpegoptim. I mention them as part of my article about optimizing websites at

Sculptex. Thanks a million for this guide. I've often been very confused by Googles web-speed ratings. Your excellent tutorial touches on subjects that I failed to understand in the past.

I'll need to look into the points you've raised in a greater depth.

    But thanks, and much appreciation
