I have allotted a 30Mb RAM disk, and a 1Gig disk cache for my first two scratch disk preferences. But every time I open PS I get the attached annoying message, which brings everything to a halt until attended to.
Needless to say both disks are never full, at this stage, but completely empty.....so how do I permanently cancel this message (and what on earth is PS talking about !?)...Thanks for any help available......Lewes

I rarely work with Mac (only at my part time job if there is no one else) so I'm far from a specialist. You probably did what I am going to suggest, but still, one never knows...:

Restart your Mac and DON'T run any applcations as they will fragment your memory. 30MB of RAM is in fact extremely little for a big eater like Photoshop. In case you cannot give it at least 100MB of RAM for it's own use, you may not have any other app open together with PS.)

Go the to finder and choose from the Apple menu 'about this computer' (or something similar).
You will now see the largest block of unused RAM will now be shown. Remember this, take 80% of it and write this number down (IE: you have an unused block of 100MB, then you write 80)

Now go to Finder, Photoshop and choose File>info.
Set the number you wrote down as your preferred size.

To work comfortably in PS6, you need at least 128, and better 256MB or more if you intend to have anything (even e-mail!) open together with PS.

As for your harddisks: use norton to defrag regularly

Hope this helps, and that a real Mac user comes by soon and gives you more info.

    success, ERIK

If you don't work against time, time often works for you.

I´m not an expert with Macintosh hardware either, although I use Mac every day.
Anyway, I don´t see any reason to use a RAM disk for Photoshop scratch disk. I think it´s better to let PS use the available RAM memory straight the way Erik writes above. Try to remove the RAM disk completely.

Thankyou both for your suggestions. I do in fact run anything up to 400 RAM for PS - just thought a small RD might speed up the application. Have reduced the scratch disk to one cache disk, and lo and behold the annoying little dialogue box has disappeared!
    Thanks again......Lewes
