Lightbulb Low resolution of Text on a Curve

    Dear Xara...

Xara Desktop applications can claim superior quality in rendering due to its vector base, sub-pixel anti-aliasing and the use of fonts for rendering on the web page.
All this pops when text is placed on a path. On publish, I get a low resolution image of a text line or box that when scaled shows jaggies very readily.

I can convert to editable shape but lose the text-editing capability.
Also, the resolution of the grouped shapes is no better that above.

All looks well in the Xara design page.

I can create a bitmap copy but have to go to ludicrous dpi values and large upload file sizes for little benefit.

My suggestion is reliant on the use of known letter placement and CSS3 transforms. Each glyph would have to be processed individually.

The benefit, however, would accrue once you could also apply other effects dynamically through class interactions.
I would expect there to be a character limit as rendering an entire page of single letters would be a chore.

Hah. I had to remember how to publish an html page...

I made two text on a curve elements. Exported to a PNG, then to a web page. I have an image viewer showing the PNG on top of the web page as viewed in Vivaldi.

    So what am I missing?

Info Re: Low resolution of Text on a Curve

Mike, I am trying to reconcile the poor rendering of text that has been turned into an image:

I want to publish my web pages as crisp as possible.

Top line is normal font text.
Second line is Xara image of grouped text on a path, of which I had high hopes.
Third is result of a 600 dpi 27MB bitmap copy that is rendered on a web page as 32.3KB.

But it will render as a bitmap by itself when published, which is what I let XDP do. And at 100% of size, is just fine in my screen shot. Are you zoomed in? It appears so.

Mike, yes, "when scaled shows jaggies". It is a principle I would like that ext is rendered as text, boxes as boxes, vectors as vectors (if only) and tables as (HTML) tables. Pathing is always going to be tricky but Xara has been highly innovative in the past.

So, if I understand, what you want is basically text on a path ala SVG properties & perchance manipulated via CSS to hide the path, etc?? That's the only means I know of to accomplish this particular feet.

Mike, path hiding is not a problem as Xara allows a no line width.

SVG is good as the text is rendered and is selectable (https://developer.mozilla.org/en-US/...ement/textPath). Xara is effectively a powerful SVG editors so why not leverage the HTML output to SVG?

Currently, Xara parks the text in the Alt parameter. CSS3 doesn't offer :nth-letter, so CSS manipulation would require every letter to be wrapped into a new span, which is the recommended practice for in-word letter styling by the W3C. Again it is doable.

This is a too complex example using Bezier curves: http://jsfiddle.net/hyyvpp8g/140/.

I just felt text could be presented as text.
