Default Auto load pdf file on android devices

    Hi,

A website of mine has links to pdf files which download and load fine in windows but I get a pdf 'cannot open' message when using an android device.

I've searched for a solution to this but haven't come up with anything that works. Is there a solution?

Have you got a PDF reader on your phone Ian?

    Hi Egg

I have Adobe Acrobat on my tablet (which is where I discovered the problem) and the pdf appears to download but then I get the cannot open message.

There seem to be others on the internet needing a solution to this (but a lot of the posts are many years old). It may be that it isn't possible to download and automatically load pdfs on android devices but I thought it worth asking in case someone knows how to do it.

I'm sure that I could download and then open up my pdf reader and manually load the downloaded file but the (password protected) website is going to be used for members of a club who are generally not very computer literate - I have to supply printed copies of the pdf to many of them who refuse to use computers.

Pdfs download viewing opens in browsers can be set for individual users preferences. For example on my PC I have mine set to download all pdf's as I usually want to print/save them, not just view them on screen, then save/print them.

Have you tried alternative pdf readers readers on your tablet?

I have alternative pdf readers on my tablet but it is running out of battery power and I'm going away for the weekend. I'll investigate further and get back to this thread in a day or so.

    Thanks.

The problem was solved by resetting the default apps on the android tablet. When I thought I was resetting the defaults, I wasn't - so the problem lay with my lack of knowledge rather than the technology. Nothing new there then.

    Thanks for the help.
