    Lightbulb Licensing

In passing, I've just received an email from a company where I bought their product:

You may continue to use your version of product without the renewal. The License Renewal entitles you to one year of free upgrades and support. With the License Renewal you will get the latest version of software and NEW registration key. The License Renewal does not cancel the old license key, so you can still use it on another computer.
The renewal is just under 50% of the original price.

    How refreshing,

I think Acorn is comparing the simplicity and clarity of this particular license with Xara's new 365 licensing.

Something is missing. If I had the previous version along with updates/new features, what is there that will entice me to renew? The prospect of future updates/new features?

Then there would have to be something good in each new version

    do I detect irony

isn't that more or less what the xara model used to be?

except that we did not get upgrades as such during the year, but we did get fixes - oh and the new features we did get were thin on the ground of late; but if you have a program that tries to do too many things in one package, that might be said to be a likely outcome for some users at least

Rather it was for inspiration; clarity over obfuscation.
