I think this 3D printing is the next revolution. Whilst not new the technology it has leapt ahead over recent times.
Maersk Line Containers, the largest container shipping company, is now experimenting with onboard 3D printers to replicate engine parts. Imagine the cost that could be saved. Need a replacement part whilst in the middle of the Pacific Ocean? Download the CAD file from the internet & print it. Compared to a forced detour of perhaps 100's or 1000's of miles to the nearest port to collect it after an expensive airfreight round the world delivery.
