Not directly in Xara Larry.

It can be done using some type of Flash software. In my demo I use Hippani Animator. It's an html5 animator program.

I placed the html file it created into a rectangle placeholder on the Pasteboard layer.

Egg, I have fine-tuned my thinking and this is what I am trying to do:

I am trying to duplicate the effect which I see on many WordPress website creator themes.

Objective: video background with a semi-transparent overlay onto which I can place headlines. The colour of these headlines [and script] are usually in white type. I would like to get this effect inside an area of a page, not the pasteboard background.

Can this be done with XARA in conjunction with Hippani Animator. You are correct in saying that Hippani Animator looks like a fun tool. I have been message about with it for an hour or so.
