Oh ya I am not hooked up to cable I am on a 56k modem, and my !@###$%^^^ ISP will not let me send files larger than about 1.4 m,which is a huge pain in the ass.

I don't consider myself having enough experience in modelling so I could give the 2D textures a try.

Ok lets go with a robot walking in the desert. He is creaking along, been without oil or a battery recharge for days. He is starting to hallucinate. He seeing visions of an oaisis, with a beatifull female robots serving him tall cool glasses of oil. And he is sitting in a lounge chair that is actually a recharging device.
etc..etc..

...another idea for the 'main scene'...
The robot is walking out of a small box. It's a gift box, and has some coloured crumpled tissue-like wrapping paper packed inside it. The box has a bow or lace sitting off to the side, untied.
The lid could be visible off to the side also.
The box could be sitting on a table, and in the bg could be an outdoor scene - like a back yard. Or, sitting on a rug/carpet, with perhaps a fireplace in the background.
This of course would make the robot brand new looking. So clean textures, and shiny surfaces would be in order.
One of the main things i like about this type of scene idea is that it can have a lot of objects within it. Thus, creating more jobs for everyone - like more diverse textures.
Just some more thoughts...
I guess i'm doing the "sculpting" here so... i'll need to have some fairly definitive ideas about the robot and his environment and situation before i really get down to cutting him up.
Let's settle on ideas... BUT... let's start a New Thread for them, where only the specific finalized ideas will go, ok?
That way we can keep a sort of "log" of what will be the actual project details.
Yah? Nay? Woot!Woot!?
I'm only tossing out questions, folks. If we are not up to animation, that is cool.
Stu, do not worry concerning bandwidth and speed. I think you will be able to handle it. Yeeeesh, you post image all the time!!!!
There is a textures thread that is related to the robot assignment, so heads up on the forum.
As I said in the textures thread, I want this to be a group effort, but I personally want to stay out of it, 'cause I've already built the robot once. I want to see fresh visions here.

...probably because it is similar to what came first in my mind when I read about the project. "My" idea was a brand new robot getting out of the box, immediately meeting an "old" similar robot (perhaps they are brothers?). Then we would have new shiny textures for the new robot, and old "scratchy" textures for the old one. It would be an indoor scenery.

Ya cool idea Paul!
And that will also generate more jobs for those wishing to do the textures.
Great!
This is just what came to mind when someone mentioned "Desert". Or maybe it could be just a closeup on the "Head" with a desert in the background and the reflection of beautiful green somethin! This could be a design concpet
all done in PS6
