Default First real design in Xara

Alright, as some of you know, I'm really new to this. I have no clue about the details of design yet as I'm really a front end coder. Since I've been tasked with building this company's site from the ground up, I'm dealing with the design aspect of it too. So here's my first real design element. Like I said, I'm not familiar with the rules, I just create what I like, based upon my limited experience.

I'd lose the blurry stuff and stick with a sharp divide between the photo and the nice slanted panel on the left.

Its looking promising Iggy. You could also try putting the blue background to the back of the text.

Yes Salaam, thanks for that. I was wondering how to bring the button out more. I think that's why it looks a bit blurred. I will try that.

For some reason when I used the fading tool it caused it to look blurred like that. It's something to do with the fading tool. I don't like the sharp contrast between the left and the right that's why I tried to fade. There's something more to the fading tool that I have got to learn and practice because I still don't like the line between them.
