    Default 3 State Sticky Buttons

By default, the MouseOver button state also designates the current page. I prefer to have a different button color for the selected page which I have always done using a MouseDown layer for the highlighted button. This way the mouse over effect is different from the highlighted button.

But if you want your menu to be sticky (and who doesn't?) the buttons do not work correctly in Firefox. You need to double click on the button and that defeats the whole idea.

So here is my solution: http://gwpriester.xara.hosting/buttons/index.htm

It is very simple and it works, I think.

Create individual 2-state buttons, MouseOff and MouseOver instead of a Navigation Bar. Arrange and Link the buttons then use Copy > Paste in Place to add these to each page.

Modify the MouseOver button on each page in any way you wish. This modified button shows the current page.

Nice solution. I always believe the Xara Navbar should have a selected state.

It does, but it is the MouseOver state. I find this confusing because the page is highlighted with the MouseOver state button but then you see the same buttons when you mouse over the other buttons.

Yes, I agree. The Selected state should be different than the Mouse Over state.

Thanks, Gary. I was just looking for the "down" state this morning, and agree that it should be an option in the navbar dialog, in addition to "normal" and "over" states.

I'm actually mocking up a supersite, just at the moment. I was looking for a navbar condition button to tell the site visitor where they are on the page. It's not quite as necessary as on a site that actually has different pages, but it would still be helpful in the supersite situation. Any solution for that?

    Thanks,

    Jack

Link to anchors instead of pages?
