adding reference numbers in text

I would like to easily add reference numbers into paragraphs of text. Is there anyway to easily insert tiny numbers into a block of text without having to resize and position each one individually?

You could use the Super or Subscript setting.

Add a number, highlight it with the Text Tool, and click the Superscript (1) or Subscript (2) buttons on the Infobar.

Not that I know of. Acorn might have a script that can do this.
