Default Transfers to and from other hosting groups

I have just completed a site to replace an existing site hosted by YOLA.

    Everyone loves it!

But Yola has told the person who made the crude initial site that
they can transfer the domain name (with some effort)
but that they can only host material produced by their software.
This strikes me as odd ...

    1) HTML is HTML and universal isn't it?
2 Does this mean Xara's compatibility with other hosting organisations
is not 100% and universal as I understood it to be?

I can wrestle the domain name from Yola ... as it is a charity group's IP -
not the property of the kind volunteer who used their free space to host it
and is possibly pissed off at someone being asked to do it properly.

Finally how do I position the new site with a new host
and maintain the search engine dominance the existing site has.

Xara does not seem to offer search engine optimisation?

    Any assistance greatly received.

    Martin

Whoever is the registrar for the domain name (it can be any registrar) has to point the name servers (something like Name Server: DNS1.XARA.COM, Name Server: DNS4.XARA.COM, Name Server: DNS2.XARA.COM, Name Server: DNS3.XARA.COM) to the name servers associated with your web hosting company. The redirect process is used all the time and can take from a few minutes to a few days to take place.

My plan is to take down the content of the current site
    http://xyz.co.uk
and use the 301 reassign to a domain I'll register as
    http://xyz.org
    here on Xara.

    Two specific questions:
1 Does Xara optimise for search engines or do I have to tell them?
2 One hosting group I spoke with said that Xara was not suitable for

Since it appears to be a FREE hosting site (from what you wrote), it may be that "CAN ONLY" should read "ARE ONLY WILLING TO". I don't believe that the creation medium restricts the hosting.

Many thanks - ss-kalm has hit the problem spot on ... plus an illiterate user.
Big Frank - merci pour votre assistance! - got me to a workable solution.

The old site xyz.co.uk is now mirrored by zyx.org which I control and have
already put up a two page site while the recalcitrant volunteer reads
    and acts on Frank's advice.

I'm still confused by the mysteries of search engine optimisation ... but
    present problem solved.

    Thanks guys.

it's an industry all by itself and, if you're good and consistent, can reap rich rewards
but to do it properly across all media can be tiresome and tedious
that's why it costs a lot to get others to do it for you properly
