I have a movie that uses some .jpg & .png files. When I publish the .swf, the graphics are distorted like peices of it are pulled away by just a few pixels.

    Anyone else had this problem?

    Thanks,

    Scott

Can't say I've had the problem myself, but have you tried playing with the JPG compression settings on export? It might be that it's just compressing like crap. Flash has yet to impress me on JPG compression...heh.

As a matter of fact, I did. Sorry I didn't include that in my posting. The file I currently have published is at 100% (0 compression) and it is still distorted. I have seen web sites that have this problem but it is usually a direct product of movement. Not in this case. You can see what I'm talking about by going to: Aidance. The logo is distorted unlike the .jpg image.

    Thanks,

yes, i see what you mean - i really couldn't say. i'm assuming you've tried exporting and re-importing, etc. is there anything behind or over the image, even invisible items?

i'll try and have a look at this and see if i can find anything helpful. right now, though, i'm pretty much stumped.

    Hey Stinger
This isn't any help, but i've had the same problem. Except mine is quite strange, and it didn't have anything to do with jpeg compression settings. I exported my movie, everything was fine, i made some simple changes, like changing a link, exported it again, and presto, some of the jpeg images were distorted. I could never work out why, and i could never fixed it, i ended up changing the graphics that were distorted. It's bizarre hey, when it was fine the first time but never again.
    Anyway, that is my story.
Incidentally, i went to your site, I like how the flash part 'merges' into the non-flash part. The picture carries across from flash to non-flash, how did you do that? Was it as simple as you just chopped the pic and put half in the flash file and half in the html?
    Cheers

Deep: Thank you for looking into this situation for me. I have tried to re-import the image and have also tried importing it in different formats from .PNG to BMP and the result is always the same with added file size. There are some objects that lay over the image. Obviously the dropdown menus are on top but, there are also invisible buttons that lay on top of the initial buttons that appear on the image itself.

Chuck: To answer your question on how I merged the Flash with the non-Flash sections of the page; You are right, I chopped one large image into sections and put them into a table. For the center (Flash section), I simply imported the image, that would have otherwise gone in the center cell, into Flash and aligned it "top/left". Then I just plugged the Flash movie into the cell of the table. Sounds like a lot of work I know, but I used some techniques and software that I learned on this forum (from Deep & Bill) to do this. If you use Macromedia Fireworks to create the image of whatyou want the whole page to look like, you can break it up into "slices" and export it as html. From there, you have your html (that you will have to modify a little) and all your images broken up for you. It's actually pretty easy if you have the right tools. Fireworks has been a tremendous asset for me even though the html code is not always clean. You can always brush it up a little.

    Thanks everyone,

    Scott

hey scott, have you tried to remove the invisible images on top just to see if the resulting .swf still has the same problem? if it doesn't, then you know where your problem lies. if the problem still exists then we'll have to just keep digging, won't we? Hey Deep,

I hadn't tried that at this point but did right after reading your suggestion. Bad news... Still didn't work.

    Thanks,

hmmm...another question - are the dimensions of the raster image WITHIN the flash file the same as its dimensions when viewed OUTSIDE the file? for example, if you're looking at it in photoshop, and it's at 40x40, is it still 40x40 inside flash? or have you resized it inside of flash? if so, that might account for the distortion...if not, back a-digging we go!
