now I can really empathise with a 'squircle'

lame curves I've come across before... and they can be called lame ovals too, indeed why not...

I think Roly is correct about it being a stadium shape. A short one, so does that make it a special case? Anyway it is for sure not a capsule shape because a capsule is a 3 dimensional shape.

Larry are you suggesting that Bob(oid) is NOT a special case?

No, that is a special case too. But are we coining a term for that particular shape to be called from now on a Boboid? Not a bad idea. In fact I like that. Bob will now be famous by virtue of having a special shape named in his honor.

since when has a stadium not been 3D ? - greyhound circuit track would be closer [to the ground]

A stadium may be 3D, but a Boboid is 2D..

you do realise that the suffix 'oid' refers the shape characteristic, as in 'ovoid' and not the shape itself as in 'oval' [for example]

so even if the shape in question is a 'boboid' that still leaves open the question of what particular boboid it is....

[isn't this where we came in....]

Stadium shape is 2D, but, capsule shape is 3D or stadium of revolution. It is a basic three-dimensional geometric shape consisting of a cylinder with hemispherical ends.

Larry, a 2D stadium wouldn't be popular but cheaper to build. Baseball fans would not want a 2D stadium.
