Text Columns in Variants

I thought that text changes in columns would update across variants, as it does in regular text boxes. Apparently, it does not. Attempts to Share Across Variants with columns results in message that it cannot perform the request. Is this a limitation of variants or is there an incantation that I am failing to use?

I can make text columns shared across variants. I don't understand why you're having issues Dan.

UPDATE:

This is what I experience. I can successfully create multiple columns on a Main page. I then create the Variant page and the columns successfully transfer to the newly created Variant. But, any further edits to the Main Page result in the following message: The selected object cannot be LiveShared on the variant pages. Do you want to make a simple copy of it on each variant page? So, I conclude that the initial creation of a Variant page creates a "simple copy" of the columns to the new Variant page but will not allow subsequent edits on a Main (or Variant) to LiveShare to the other page. If someone experiences something different, I would be interested in how (the steps) that was accomplished. Thanks.

Dan, I would agree with you that columned text boxes are not live shared.

When you create a set of columns, Xara creates that number of separate text boxes that are linked.
The application is not that clever to live share and link all together, all at once.

I have not managed to get the information message you have had.
