Egg, that's fine if you are simply sharing the image.
If you resize it, Xara will publish as a separate image and its Retina version (if ticked).

Things might be improved if all the images were optimised (Utilities > Optimise all images...).

@forresthowie, Robert, in future it might be better to import all your assets into the main design pages before creating any Variant. You might be copying and pasting instead of sharing though I think the resultant payload will be the same. Xara has never been good at recognising identical but scaled images and using only one with different dimensions for all the others.

    Hi there,
Thanks for also getting involved. When you mean resize it - do you mean if i rescale it on the other variant to fit it better into the design?
    Thanks

Oh...I do that often. That could be the problem then - but surely that's what's supposed to happen if the image is to work with the web variant itself?
    Thanks

I'm sorry but this is the hard bit. What I have done on occasion is add an image to a page, give it a Name of filename=imageXYZ and then created a number of boxes in the same ratio and added this Placeholder code to their body: <img src="index_htm_files/imageXYZ.jpg" width=400> and matched the width to the Placholder box width.

Here is a simple example: Carrots.xar.

If you Export locally and open the index_htm_files/ folder, you will only find the one JPG.

Ah - you use the 365 version? It opened well enough for me to see what's going on. Does the ration size have to be an exact match for it to work? Or do the images just work but look a little 'off'?

Sorry Acorn but that's not true. Xara uses the same image but resizes it.

I'm having issues with my computer at present but I'll try to supply a xar file to show how it works.

Interestingly this example site comes up as loading in just over 3 seconds and has 74 images and makes 88 file requests

    according to http://www.clickminded.com/seo-check-site-analysis/

Wonder if it is just an issue inherent in Xara?
