A no code solution could be to put a '?' after the return link to the index page.

Utilities > Web Properties... > Link > Link to Web or Email address: index.htm?
Ensure the "Correct automatically" box is unticked.

It works for a Crossfade or other transition Supersite as well as a Horizontal Supersite and you get a Conventional Site thrown in for free.
