X11 Screen Capture bumming me out

OK, I've finally gotten frustrated enough with this to post for help!

Using a Surface Pro 3, with X11, whenever I try to get a screen capture of either full screen, active window, or content of active window, I'm constantly getting a cropped version of it ~ useless! It seems that it's not compensating for the screen resolution or something.

Is there an easy fix or setting change to this that anyone knows about?

Sniping tool in windows works well for me.

I agree with Albacore, the snipping tool in Windows is pretty good, and you can save as Png, Jpeg, Gif or a single HTML file.

I think the question is specifically about Surface and Xara's Utilities > Screen Capture...

I can't help directly as I don't have a Surface machine. I do have a Wind'Tab 8 but I'd have to install XDPX11 onto it but that would involve a lot of hassle.

I can't say for sure how it would work with a surface tablet but I use FastStone Capture with Windows 10 and it works great. Not free but at around 20 bucks US not expensive either.

Windows "Snipping" tool works fine if your screen doesn't change.
If you are trying to capture an error message or menu, they can disappear before you can launch the tool.

I have a quite old copy of Paint Shop Pro that lets you set-up a hot key (F11) to grab the screen at the right time.
I have no experience of Angelize's "FastStone Capture", but I'm sure she is around and will comment ;-)

I like FastStone capture as well. I probably have the same version as Frances. There is an old free version available, and works very well, at least it did last time I tried it. If you set up a shortcut it can be accessed very fast.
