Just another followup - positive I think.
Well, having reinstalled Win 10 and XaraDP11 successfully, I was shocked to see that Win 10 was HOME edition!!!!! I had had Pro but the reinstall never asked for version and defaulted to Home. Oh well. Anyway, I loaded Xara and deactivated it. Simples. I then reinstalled Win 10 - complete, thus wiping out anything on the drive.... heck - Win 10 Home AGAIN!!! So, I'm scratching head. As you do, I searched Google and found this article: http://www.groovypost.com/howto/make...-home-version/
I changed the product key and after about 1/2hour it is now Pro!! Wow. Never knew that!
Back to Xara... I reinstalled XDP11 and reactivated without any issue at all.
Regarding a system restore image - I've never done that, but I am a firm believer in rebuilding a PC from scratch every 3-4 months (because it keeps it fresh in my mind and does clear alot of useless accumulated crap).
Best
once I have a clean build I make an image so I don't have to do all the work again [hopefully] - I make notes so I remember what I have done - interestingly I restore my computer every few months too and I make a fresh build based on the previous build if I have new stuff that I have proven works and want added
I do this with third party software from acronis, which is paid for; there are free image programs, one I know works is easeus todo
glad you got it sorted out in the end
