So. which Xara product do I want? (Upgrading from Xtreme 5)

I've been out of touch here for years... which Xara product has the capabilities of Xtreme?

I find the product descriptions mostly unfathomable...

Xara Designer Pro. Has all the bells and whistles.

I'd recommend Designer Pro as well. In the current version you will find some really nice changes Things that have been added since V5 : shape painter, vector eraser, easy integration of Google fonts, In V11 the brushes finally got a sweet upgrade brushes that stretch along the path as well repeating brushes that follow even really tight corners and Live copies too!

Obviously the Pro version is the best, but it is also the most expensive. Do any of the other, cheaper, current versions include everything that is in Extreme?

Xtreme 5 became Photo and Graphic Designer, and includes everything from its predecessor, Xtreme. I would recommend having a look at that first - http://www.xara.com/photo-graphic-designer/
