Default Problems with adding a Button to the Control Bar in Xara Photo & Graphic Designer 11

    Hi,

I've searched the forum and can't find anything about this issue so I started this thread.

I've upgraded from Xara Photo & Graphic Designer 2013 to Xara Photo & Graphic Designer 11 and I'm having a problem customizing the toolbar.

I know the routine about opening the Button Palette, holding down the Alt key etc. This all works. The problem is that when I close the application and open it again the button I added to the toolbar isn't there anymore. How can I have it remember this change to the toolbar? As far as I recall in Xara Photo & Graphic Designer 2013 this was automatic.

    Regards,
    Jim.

    Hi,
I believe after you setup the button pallette with the puttons you have to save as the default template (or a template that you specifically name to represent the change. The latter tho' you have to load the new template...setting as default opens it every document.

You need to right click the shortcut to the program and run as administrator - only needs to be done once, this allows the registry settings to be updated.

    Thanks for the responses.

I tried both these suggestions, i.e. saving as the Default Template and Running as Administrator and both failed.

I then found that the problem was the button I was trying the save - the Pen Tool. What I did was move the Pen Tool and the Color Gallery (a button chosen at random) to the Tool Bar. I closed XPGD11, then opened it again and the Color Gallery was still there but the Pen Tools was not. So, for some reason, XPGD11 refuses to remember me moving the Pen Tool to the Toolbar.

I even tried creating my own Custom Toolbar , moving the Color Gallery and the Pen Tool to it, closing XPGD11 and reopening it. When I did my Custom Toolbar only contained the Color Gallery - the Pen Tool was nowhere in sight.

So why does XPGD11 have problems with the Pen Tool?

This is a known issue. XarReg seems the only way to get it to stick. Try this:

Thanks for the advise. That worked like a charm.

I never even knew XaReg existed. And it even allows me to edit the defaults in the Line Size drop down. Big Bonus!

    Thank you again!

    Regards,
    Jim.
