Import of mpg and mp4 doesn't work

If I try to import either an mpg or mp4 file I get a Warning pop-up saying the format is "not supported," with "for more advice on how to easily convert your movie," go to the Magix site, which only shows a product for sale. In the WD11Prem. Help it has a long list of all the supported files, which includes mp4.

What am I missing?
