Default whether to use pasteboard or mouseoff or a different layer

Searched help, knowledgebase, etc, but cannot figure out when to put objects on the pasteboard, and when to put them on the mouseoff layer, or a different layer.
[I know the mouseover layer is used if the mouse is going to cause something to happen.]
    Thanks

If you put objects on the pasteboard they are stored with the file but will not appear on your website.

Anything that is on the Mouse Off layer and that is on the page will appear when the page loads.

Anything on the Mouse Off layer will only appear if it is linked to by something (such as a navigational button) from the MouseOff layer.

    This help?

Gary, thanks. it helps if you made a typo: "Anything on the Mouse Off layer will only appear if it is linked to by something (such as a navigational button) from the MouseOff layer."
Did you mean Mouse Over? if not, i am totally confused

Yes, it's a typo, I think Gary means:

"Anything on the Mouse Over layer will only appear if it is linked to by something (such as a navigational button) from the Mouse Off layer".

Basically just use the Mouse Off layer.

Egg, thanks. that's what i thought.
    1. But "If you put objects on the pasteboard they are stored with the file but will not appear on your website." does not make sense, in that when i tried doing that, they appeared when i did a preview.
    2. Also, you mentioned [previously] about keeping a couple of items on the pasteboard [instead of the dozen i had]. i think you are saying do not put anything there, if not, when would i want to put something there?
    3. And, if i do not put them on the pasteboard, will they still stay fixed on that black section on the pasteboard? That is my concern
    Thanks

    Hi Leonard,

If you put objects on the pasteboard they are stored with the file but will not appear on your website.
Not at first, however Xara started it's life as a vector drawing program and it had a page (A4, US Letter or whatever size) and the "Pasteboard" was not used as a layer, just an area off the drawing page. So if you wanted to do a doodle but not on the page you drew it over the pasteboard area. It was saved with the file but wouldn't print.

With the introduction of web creation functions, the pasteboard took on a completely different guise. It was the region that filled the screen, behind the main page if there was additional screen real-estate. Also, now a user may want to add additional objects to this off-page background, so you could go into the pasteboard layer and do so, something you never needed to do in the days of using the program as a drawing, the pasteboard then was just a place to differentiate the page/non-page boundries.

So let's put it this way, if you place an object in the pasteboard layer, outside the page boundary, provided there's enough screen real-estate it will be visible on your website. However, on the Mouse-Off layer if you place an object outside the page boundary it will not be visible on your website.

And, if i do not put them on the pasteboard, will they still stay fixed on that black section on the pasteboard?
If you place them on the mouse-off layer, above the black section, they will retain their position.

    ok, nowwwwwwwwww i get it.
It is similar to when I used Microsoft publisher compared to Word, in that you could store things on a publisher project that would not be printed.
    Egg. thanks for the clarification
