I see the "P" in the negative space. A closed gap would remove the negative space.

I personally like the one with the bottom of the "D" meeting at the baseline.

With things like this, it's always very personal.
For me, I'm not too sure that the 'P' would look good if the 'D' was closed?

But, why not do a quick drawing, Mike, and give us an idea as to what you mean?
