    Default video files

Having an issue with cross browser compatibility and mp4 video. What would be the best way to embed this? IE10 shows an error, 11 onwards seems compatible, but is there another solution? Apart from youtube? .mov also is causing issues with compatibility

I just had to deal with playing MP4's on a client's website as I purchased new slideshow software and the end results are MP4's instead of .SWF flash files like my old software produced. As you are seeing MP4's don't just play when embedded. Some browsers support the file type and some don't. I didn't want to use YouTube either so I had to come up with something else. I ended up using a free player that is small and easy to incorporate into the site. Just takes a little code on the site and a file stored on the server. It seems to be working well with no real issues and just one very small plug for the mfg in the form of the players name next to the slidebar. The end result is very similar to what the player looks like on YouTube.

I looked at a lot of players and read a lot of reviews before deciding. I ended up using this one( I hope it is ok that I am adding a link? don't think it infringes on any Xara products )...

It plays a variety of file types including MP4. This link gives a little bit of extra info that will help you out with the coding( you can edit the size and features of the player )...

While you didn't ask I am going to take the initiative here and ask if you are dealing with large file size MP4's? If so I can help you there too. The ones I made were running in the 100-200MB size which takes a long time to download. I used a free video compression tool that is amazing! It does a great job of shrinking the files size down without losing noticeable quality( as long as you don't go overboard ). If your MP4's are big try this software to shrink them down. My 100-200MB files went to 8-17MB files after conversion with little if any truly noticeable loss of quality. Those who made the video/slideshow may notice it slightly but the site visitor will think it is great( as long as the original file was ).

Sorry for the length of this. I seldom get to actually help so I got carried away.
