Your way is far too clever Ross; I just counted the steps in a small pieslice and multiplied up. Sorry.
Christina has also out-cunninged me today. I shall have to go and sulk!

Maybe in the next version of XaraX (XXaraXX?)there could be a dialog box or window in the tool bar to set the number of steps as in the blend tool?
