Default Buy DESIGNER PRO X10 now, or wait?

    Hi everybody,

not too long ago I had a problem with SVG handling in my well aged Xara-X Pro.
the solution seems to be upgrading to at least V 9, which I had put up so far.

Just received an upgrade offer from Xara, DESIGNER PRO X10 for 89 Euro and I might just go for it.

In another thread I read that a new version "is on the horizon".
I did not follow disussions very much lately, so is there already an announcement or release date?

I actually only need the vector-graphics part of it, no bitmap handling and no web-functionality required.

If the new version would bring significant enhancements to vector tools or drawing in general, I'd rather wait for it.
If not, V 10 might just do fine for me.

Also, since the versioning and naming is getting a bit confusing for me, "DESIGNER PRO X10" is the - currently - latest and top notch version, right?
Including Pantone Colors, CMYK printing and all?

    Thanks!

XDP X 10 is the current new version.

I suspect the new versions will begin rolling out soon enough. XDP is always the last to arrive I believe. Whether the wait for it is worth it to you, only you know. I chose to remain with XDP X9 as I didn't believe the then new X10 was worth it to me. I am hoping the new version will entice me to upgrade when it arrives.

You could always download the trial and find out for yourself. It will likely expire before the release comes out.

    Mike

If you aren't interested in the web side of things, you might consider a trial of Xara's Photo and Graphic Designer, which has none of the web features.

Thanks, correct me if I am wrong, but as far as I know it has none of the "Pro" features? I absolutely need Pantone colors for instance.

    Check this page: http://www.xara.com/uk/designer-pro/compare/.
Pantone is also in Page & Layout Designer 10.
    Pro 10 has 64-bit and multi-processor support.

As to when to leap: leap twice through V10 to V?xx or one giant leap.

Thanks for the comparison chart, that's neat!
While 64 Bit and Multicore would be really nice too, PDF/X export is what it's missing for me. So I guess I really do need Pro.

So do I understand this correctly, there is no official announcement from Xara for a new version yet?

Xara never announces when the new versions will be released.

Going by previous years it could be sometime in the summer but this is just a guess. As Mike says Xara won't make any announcements until it's released.

P&GD has most of the web design features and tools, Bob.
