    @Maya and all—

    I didn't mean to sound callus or self-absorbed in post #56: Maya, I, too, am sorry to hear of your other friends' regrettable accidents!

    Although I've heard that SpongeBob is somewhat self-absorbed...

    It only hurts when we laugh,

    Just noticed this thread -- Gare, I hope this finds you out of pain and enjoying the spring weather, and healing up OK. Although as long as you are in a cast, you can make up wild stories about skiing with John Kerry at Zermatt, etc. Hang in there, and I hope you are completely recovered very soon.

    Thanks for the good wishes, Jon. Actually, I'm not in a cast. My femur surrounds a Titanium pole that supports a hip replacement done in 1993. This is why the excruciating pain, but also I'm healing quickly by controlling my blood sugars and stress levels (hard as that sounds!), but also why I almost immediately enjoyed range of motion freedom. I'm figuring another six weeks, a cane now and then, but full mobility which means I can finally drive the car that's not paid for yet.

    Sounds very serious... sort of the same thing I think John Kerry is going through.

    Hope it's getting better, Gare... and hope the computer and your TV also help take the edge off. Best wishes from California.

    Thanks for that, jon,

    I have the best hip surgeon on the East Coast, Dr. Seth Greenky, watching over me, so I expect watching TV might become more of a pastime than it is now, which is a necessary diversion.

    My Best,

    Gary
