Default Need Help with Photo Touchup

I know nothing about touching up a photo, so I don't know if this is too much to ask.
Anyway, I've posted a picture here of one of my granddaughters and want to remove the noise, (the shot was taken through a screen), and perhaps brighten the pic a little.

If anyone can help with this, I would appreciate it very much.

Yes it can be done if you have a much higher resolution image.

If you have PM me and we can arrange.

Ron that's a nice offer from Christine. Do you want to do it yourself? If you do what bitmap editor do you have cos I am sure I could give you hints/instructions to suit.

If nobody else is curious, I certainly am as to how this could be fixed.

I can see why you like this picture, Ron.

Thanks Christine, Peter, Paul and Scotty.
Peter, I think I would like to learn a little about it. I have Paint Brush.
Paul, she's the youngest of my grand children. Of course, grandma gives her special consideration.
    Scotty, that is much improved.

Thanks Stygg. You certainly brightened it up. It was so dark and dingy before. I don't know if it's possible to get rid of that hatching from the screen door. I just don't know anything about photo editing. I'm clueless. Gonna have to take a class or something!

I tried couple tests with different filters and getting rid of the hatching while preserving enough detail proved to be very difficult. Only way I can see to get rid of the hatching without making the image too blurry and out of focus would be painting on top of the picture and picking the colours from the original image.

First off there really is no way to completely remove the noise but you can reduce it. To be honest I have a dedicated photo editing program I'd use for this but you can use Xara and definitely make improvements. Start by adjusting the brightness of the entire photo. You can use the blur slider to slightly blur the entire photo but be careful to do this only slightly Now create a region around the face by using the shape tool to create a detailed black shape over the face and make sure to cut out the eyes and mouth. cut this shape to the clipboard (ctrl + X) then select the region painter and just select the photo with it and nothing else. use the keyboard shortcut ctrl+shift+v to paste in place and the shape you created and cut to the clipboard comes back in as a region. Now you can smooth out just her face and further remove the noise from her face.
