    Default Sweeney Todd font

This was in a newspaper advertisement for Sweeney Todd. I don't know whether it’s proprietary to the play or the newspaper had this font. Any help in identifying it would be appreciated.

    Hi Carolyn—

This looks to be a hand-set logo and not a typeface. But if you want to come close, there's a typeface called Helena and another that's over the top called "Devine Right" that you can find on almost ay of the free font boards, the legitimate ones, of course. I know this probably won't do as a match, but the "feeling" is there. You want a typeface that's a little "raw" and edgy. Use those keywords in a search on a board.

Thanks Gare. I had found those also but continued looking for a closer match. Couldn't find one. I use mostly http://www.myfonts.com/WhatTheFont/ and http://www.whatfontis.com/ to help and of the two I prefer What the Font. Once again thank you for your keen insight.

Never give up. You will never fail, but you may find a lot of ways that don't work.

The Scriptorium font foundry makes many (roughly) similar fonts.

One such would be Captain Kidd

    Another is Scurlock

The top link loads all their fonts on Dafont.

I think you hit the jackpot with the Sherlock and the Captain Kidd, Mike. eitheor of those "say" Sweeney Todd, although don't match the submitted lettering 100%.

Who cares? these guys seem close enough, and again, I'd swear that was a logo someone designed with no particular font in mind.
