Can't open jpg's or phg's thru windows explorer with Xara x10

With x9 and previous I used to be able to use "open with" and select xara. Now I select "open with" then "choose default program" browse to the xara.exe file hit it and xara still doesn't show up in the list of options.

Can't open jpg's or png's with xara through windows explorer. Even tried default programs through the control panel. No luck.

I've just tried Open with > Choose default program... and then Browse... to ..\Program Files\Xara\Xara Designer Pro X10 and selected DesignerPro.exe.

It fails for me as I have earlier versions all with DesignerPro.exe so Windows gets confused and it always opens in Xara_Designer_Pro_7 instead.

Funnily, it works for WD10P.

I don't know if this is evidence or my lack of spring-cleaning.

I can confirm this too. It's something I wouldn't normally notice as I always drag and drop my files into my Xara software.

this is a known problem I think - it's a consequence of the .EXE files having the same name for both versions and the way that windows works and or the registry is set up

it goes to the first instance of the named .EXE even if you navigate to another - there may be a fix but I don't know of one at present

edit - I suppose you could try uninstalling ver 9 seeing if it defaults to ver 10 and then reinstall ver9 - but no guarantees, all depends on the registry set up AFAIK

I've had this problem with earlier versions but it works fine for me in XDP X10. 64 Bit version.

... and the other problem I have is my .xar files all open in version 9 and I haven't got a way to retrain them.

Rename the version 10 exe to XaraDesignerPro10.exe
Add the exe to default programs(don't check the"use this app to open jpg files"option)
Now it should list in the openwith menu option when you right click a jpg.
Just tested this on win8.1/64 and works like a charm

thanks Hans that will probably work for me as I use 8.1- although I can't confirm it as my ver 10 trial hath ended - but both entries in the 'open with' are 'Designer Pro X' ie identical

edit - Egg are both your versions of xara 64bit - my ver 8 is 32bit of course, wheras my ver 10 was 64bit - that might make a difference [to windows anyway]
