Extruded text is eye-catching. But what if you want to out-do the competition with 3D text that makes an arc behind a foreground shape? Or what if you need a logo where the extruded text actually warps like those sci-fi movies. Look no further. The steps are right here, as are illustrations of where to go, what to do, all without those funny red and blue 3D cardboard glasses! Read More here.

Show us what you can do when you go beyond 3D in this thread.

Well I have to say thanks for this tutorial my husband's birthday is coming up and I've been trying to decide what to do for his birthday card this year, and this tutorial has inspired me. The card is a work in progress but I will post a version when it's done. In the meantime I did the tutorial and here is that

I wanted to follow the tutorial, as closely as I could.
So, this is what I ended up with.

    Thanks, Gary.
    Very enjoyable indeed.

    Francis and Rik:

Now that you know how to arc text, and it should be easy to draw a silhouette of a friend, or Shrek, or The Cookie Monster, let's see variations so you know how the theory, not just the practice is done, eh?

And I'm glad you found some compatible typefaces.

    My Best,

    Gary

P.S. By the way, I skirted any copyright issues in this tutorial, by not using a last name, and depicting a silhouette and not the person's photo, face or otherwise "rip off" proprietary content. Now when in doubt, it's best not to do what I did, so you might want to consider doing a silhouette of say, a pirate, and using "Yo Ho!" as the text behind the silhouette.

See? You just take a look "outside of the box", and new content comes to you.

P.S. The drape background was created using Digital Anarchy's Background Designer, a useful tool. It's price is steep at $200, but if you do a lot of compositing work fro people photography, it's a great resource.

I enjoyed that. It wan't simple getting each character to look right but here's my attempt.

Looking good, Egg! You got the principle; that's the payoff, and your scene looks brilliant and inviting. It was not simple, totally agree.

I'm always happy to see someone take a tutorial one step farther than copying it.

I'm also happy when someone copies it and learns something.

Hell, I'm happy when someone reads these tutorials!

    My Best,

    Gary
