Password protected PDF will not open

I have 514K Pdf file that I can create, export and open with no problem. When I apply security, 'File Open Password' and 'Encryption and Permission' PW it will no longer open. I get an error message: There was an error opening this document. There was a problem reading this document.

Any ideas?

I applied it inside XDP9 and when the export is done I get the error message. When I go the file itself and try open it I get the same message.

ok - works ok in ver 8, in so much as no error message after exporting, and it will open in adobe reader after entering password

it won't however open in xara designer 8 - get a message:

'The owner of this document has not given permission for it to be edited.'

to be honest that is what I expected - have you ever opened a password protected PDF in xara before?

I have version 11 and I can't get it to open. I don't think I have opened a password protected PDF in Xara before. Never had the need to.
However, when I try open this file in Xara I get the same message as you.... not given permission.

I just want to assign PW for a book so it's a little more inconvenient to distribute. I know there a digital delivery services that handle that but they charge too much.

why do you need to open it in xara?

if you want to check it you can use adobe reader if not acrobat, or one of the non-adobe equivalents that has password-capable opening

xara is only to version 9, or 10 for WD....

I don't need to open it in Xara. Xara creates a PDF file that I can't open in Acrobat. I get the error message. I can open it fine if I don't create the PW.

@camelot217 - ok sorry, but this is the first time you actually mentioned acrobat, up to then you had only mentioned xara, and 'ver 11' was not clear to me
