How can I convert a (fat) line into a new 2D shape based on 'fatness' of the line?

Hi

If I draw a line, and then make it a really fat number of pixels wide, is there any way to turn the border of the line into my new shape?

i.e. I want to draw a complex wavy line and then create an actual shape that uses both sides of the the edge of the line to become my new 2D shape.
