    Default printing Booklet style

    Hi,
I have a problem that I can't seem to get my head around.
I have a document that I want to print in 'Landscape' orientation, but I want it to print booklet
style. My printer supports printing on both sides (and also Duplex printing). The document will have 5 -7 pages.
The main title page ( the front of the book) has an image.
I have the Image stationed on the Right of the page. and the various pages with text. on the left and right of
my Xara Designer x9 (landscape) page.
    Here is what I have.

Books/Booklets need to have a page count divisible by 4. So pages need to equal 4, 8, 12, 16, etc.

Really, you should be designing with single pages of half your paper size. So a US Letter booklet destined to be printed landscape would have portrait pages 8.5" tall by 5.5" in width. Then export to a PDF and from Adobe Reader choose to print as a booklet. It will arrange the pages properly (impose them). But as mentioned above, the page count needs to be in increments of 4.

Letter size landscape, folded in half? Must be in sets of 4, so for 7 pages, that's really 8 pages with the last page blank. Page 1 is on the right side, page 8 is on the left side. On the opposite of the same paper, page 2 is on the left side, page 7 on the right. Next sheet of paper, page 3 on the right side with page 6 on the left side. On the opposite side of that paper, page 4 is on the left side and page 5 on the right.

Another problem is if you're printer can maintain the proper orientation (so the back page isn't upsidedown from the front). So you'll have to watch for that on the first printing.

I used to have a software package called Blue Squirrel that did this automatically - you state the total number of pages, size and orientation of paper, import the DOC/RTF file and it did the correct printing automatically. But the process describes how the pages are laid out. Always remember that in booklet form every thing needs to be in sets of 4, add a blank page to the back of the document if needed (you need it.)

    Jim,

Once your booklet is in what is called Reader Order (simply put, cover, pages 1-10, back cover, in your case), loading it into reader, the image below shows the option. As to where you see "Page flip," most printers will orient the pages properly using the flip on short edge option. But do check because some like the opposite flip when printing duplex.

Luckily, you have a shortish book. It took me only a few minutes to redo your file from the other thread so I could do the example in the screen shot.

I find it helpful to make up a paper mock up and draw in the page numbers and planned content. Nothing worse than not planning out a 32 page booklet properly and then having to change the pagination towards the end of the job.

Never give up. You will never fail, but you may find a lot of ways that don't work.

It's there in X9 and X10 Pro but missing in the help in both.

I've tried it out and it seems to do some sort of imposing though I am confused thus far. I would appreciate some help in the help file.

I've never looked at that option.
I'm going to try it out, tomorrow, if I remember.

My assumption is that (for example) if you had 8 pages in Xara, then choosing the Bookfold option, would make a booklet for you.
Meaning that you would get two pages coming out of the printer, with pages 1,2,7,8 on one sheet, and 3,4,5,6 on the other sheet.
When these pages are folded in half, that makes a booklet.

Will let you know my findings.

However, an expert might come and tell us all what that actually does?!

I've attached an image to show, what I think, Bookfold and Bundle might do.

But, as I said, I might have a chance to check that tomorrow.
