Erik in another thread asked if anyone knew of some good space photos. Well I checked my vast collection of links (in the thousands) and found this one:

NASA's National Space Science Data Centre

The collection features the real thing including hig-res tiff's of many. Most importantly, the pics are in the public domain. The site is a treasure.

Here's another space-related link from my collection...

If anyone finds a practical use for this reference resources I hope you'll share the outcome with your fellow xartists.

This is incredible. Wish I had a 21 inch to view them on. Thanks a lot. You made my day. (Sorry, Clint, I bade a few dollars more... )

Erik - I'm glad you like them. I knew when I bookmarked them that they'd be useful some day.

I also note their poor web design and the lesson to be learned from that. Lesson: You can get away with low level web design when you deliver good content. It matters little that both sites are plain because the sites are about the interesting content.

    Hello

I discovered the Hubble sites when they published an image of the Eagle Nebula in I think 1996.

It was the most amazing image I had ever seen.

I used it and another galaxy image to make the background for this and put it together using Picture Publisher 5. The concrete shapes are a window frame from a house on the shore of Lake Garda in Italy.
