I put this Teddy Bear in 2 other pictures, but here it wears a T-shirt and this is the origin of my question.

I tried to put a fold on the T-shirt, but it’s not very convincing. I created 3 objects: one, white with flat transparency, for the fold itself; and two, light blue with linear transparency, for its shadows.

I want to put a two-direction fold. Suggestions anyone?

    Bonjour Jean-Guy,

Folds can be tricky to make. I hope you don't mind, I saved you .jpg and made an attempt at a fold.

I'm attaching the .xar file so you can see what I did. Much better than me trying to explain.

    Soquili,
Thx for taking the time, but that's not what I had in mind.

A long time ago I saw a XAR file posted, I think the name was "kabuki" (I can't remember who made it). The folds I want to do are somewhat like those of that drawing's kimono, only more high and more narrow.

Any convincing folds will do too.

Here's the thread Jean-Guy is refering to.

(I searched for "folds" in the infopoop search - find it at the top of the page).

    Jean_Guy

Take a piece of solid colored fabric and make some folds in it. The look at the fabric and see where the highlights and shadows fall.

Without actually trying I think if you create a blend using the fabric color for the largest blend shape and then use a lighter, smaller shape for the top of the fold, you may get something like what you are looking for.

I've been putting off trying to find a technique for this for too long. Here is my attempt, as a tutorial. Comments welcomed!

This time I created the whole shape in the basic colour, then drew lines and sliced, and then made these darker and transparent.

    Simon,

I will definitely remember that technique for general folds (those on the skirt are convincing enough!), but for the T-shirt I had more success with Gary’s blend method.
