Thought I replied yesterday Egg, but apparently not. I really like this one. Looks like pewter.

    Hi Larry,

Thanks. I was trying to get a Celtic Knot type affect. I did a search for "Celtic M" and came up with this one

I didn't want to copy it exactly, just used it as the base for my drawing. The original is an embroidered letter M, which I liked but couldn't see any purposeful way of achieving the embroidery effect in Xara so went for a stone effect often seen on Celtic Knot images. It became quite complex with lots of bevels and contours.

Looking at it again, I'm happy with pewter, very similar effect.

Definitely worth all the work you put into it, Egg.
Mine is a fairly straightforward use of a font (Arboret) which I converted to editable shapes, ungrouped twice and then used the Break Shapes command in the Arrange Menu to enable me to recolour the leaves. I also drew a circle around each of the berries so that I could slice them and recolour them as well.
In the second version I used three textures with different transparencies (including Luminosity to get the colour variations) clipped inside the original drop cap to achieve an interesting effect.

You did a great job on those Bob. You and I go about them in more or less the same way, although some require a great deal of effort. I think your technique is excellent. Of the two I prefer the first.

Cute, Max. I like how you've managed to avoid drawing the bodies of the monkeys.
