Smoothing in

I'm running P&G 9. Whenever I cut out a picture and place it over another picture, well it looks like I cut out a picture and placed it over another picture.

How do I "smooth the edges" so that it the cut out looks like it's part of the original picture? I tried blurring the edges that didn't work. I tried some other desperate acts but they didn't work either.

All answers dumb or otherwise appreciated.
