Quite easy. You have the template there in front of you, the photo. You draw along one of the sides to get the shape of the jagged edge. Then you use that line to cut away the sides of any photo frame you like:
If someone tried to make me dig my own grave I would say No.
They're going to kill me anyway and I'd love to die the way I lived:
Avoiding Manual Labour.
Here's another technique. Once you have the brush you can save it and apply it to any shape.

I think it's called a deckel edge and Tony's solution is brilliant.
Once you add the brush shape outline to the rectangle and have adjusted the line width to your satisfaction, you can convert the line to shape (Arrange menu). Then it becomes a simple vector shape.

There are a number of vector jagged edges that can be purchased from go media, I will usually use one of those and put 2 back to back, 1 one way the other mirrored. then joined together then I add shapes then I use the combined shape to do a slice and cut, on the graphic edge.just make sure you duplicate several times and set the shapes a side, you will need 3 more to complete the edges. Very nice result and in vector! Love Xara!
Here is an example of the vector edges from Go Media applied to the picture after being duplicated and rotated using slice and cut on the jpg
