Just received my XDProX9 DVD in the mail. Is there anything on the DVD than isn't in the downloads? Basically wondering if there is any reason to install the DVD. Also, if I install the DVD how can keep from losing my customized toolbar buttons?

No, if you re-install from DVD then you'll lose your customised toolbars.

backup your toolbars in the registry before installing
restore them after installing
there'll be some differences due to new tools
but generally it'll work
