Default Web Pages in Designer Pro X9

    1. If I open up an ordinary page, and then want to convert it to a web page, how do I do that?

    2. And is there a way of opening up a web page so that what's not the page (the background) is of a different colour to the page itself?

In fact, what Designer Pro x used to look like.
This is only a personal preference but I don't like the new look, when you open a new web page.

File (menu) / Page Options / General (tab) / Document editing / Document type: Web document

The page and background have a default setting of no colour. When you open a new webpage in version 9 right click on the pasteboard and choose pasteboard background>edit background colour and the the colour editor pops up and you can set the background to what ever colour you want. You can do the same with the page background.

What confused me was that when I changed the Pasteboard background colour, it changed everything.
Because what wasn't apparent to me is that the page itself is set to no colour.
Therefore everything was changing to the Pasteboard background colour.

    Thanks, Frances.

I've also changed, in this post, the fact that there should only be one 'a' in Pages in the title!
Maybe a Mod can change that, if they have time?!

It takes some getting used to. The change is because a browser background is white (by default) therefore it makes sense (to the devs) that the Web Designing work space is also white in keeping with the fully WYSIWYG paradigm.

You can change this to the old grey pasteboard colour by deleting the page layer and pasteboard layer in the Page and layer gallery then saving the file as your template (File>Save Template).

It is so simple just to drag and drop a pasteboard color and then a drag and drop a page color. You can drag from the screen palette or drag from the preview swatches in the Color Editor.

If you have a print document and want to convert it to a web document, just add a link to something. A dialog opens and asks if you want to convert to a Web document. If you say yes, your page is now a web page.

    Thanks for that explanation.
It's just that when I first looked at it, I didn't like it. And I still don't like it.
That's because, since about 1987, I've always preferred a page to stand out from the background. Just the way the Print Document looks in Designer Pro. The way things have always looked in previous versions I've used.
So, when I saw the new look, I was looking at something I've never liked.

I've already said, that when I first dragged a colour onto the Pasteboard background, the page colour changed as well. But, I hadn't then gone and tried to change the page colour.

And, that it's a personal preference and that I don't like the new look.
But, Steve has also shown a way of saving a template. I may try that at some stage.

Rik, I fixed the title for you.

I've now gotten used to the new background features and I quite like them. You can just drop a colour on the background and another on the page as Gary said and set them to what ever colours you want and create a template.

As I've already said, that it's a personal preference.
You and others may like it.
But, for me, I think it's going to take a long time.
