Rik, go for the pepperpot approach - create several bars and add a variety of Tools and see what happens then.
If they all disappear you at least know you haven't offended the Pen Tool.

Can I ask, if the same is happening to others?

In Designer Pro X9, if you place the Pen Tool on a bar (any bar) then after a restart, the Pen Tool remains there?
Or does it disappear, as it does for me.

I am not using XaReg to make any changes or choose any option in XaReg, by the way.

Well, it seems to me (and I'm not an Xpert at this) that a registry entry would need to be changed.

So, if you're brave and want to change the registry setting, then see the info below:-

Navigate to:-

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Spftware\Xara\XtremePro\9.2\Opti ons\FlyoutBars

Then change the value of ‘ShowPenToolOnFlyout’ from ‘0’ to ‘1’

Strange that the programme comes with this set to '0'.

Using the dark UI, in the 64 bit program the pen tool is retained upon reopening, but in the 32 bit version, it disappears.

Yep, I had to reinstall the 32bit version and you're right, it seems that the 32bit version disallows the pen tool

It's not just the 32bit version it happens with the 64 bit version here as well.
And I can confirm that changing the registry key to show the pen tool on the flyout bar does indeed fix the issue.

Yep, it's disappearing for me in both 32bit and 64bit, light UI.
