There is a table widget in the Designs Gallery.

Of you can build a table using the tab function.

heres one reason why i never use the designs gallery
    its is simply unwieldy
ive never used this table widdget so i thought ill give it a whilrl before criticising it
so i open the designs gallery and look down the list
    theres no table mentioned anywhere
so i have to know where to look
well it's dtp so maybe page elements & widgets?
nope there nothing like that in the list
    what about print themes?
    nope not in there either
    in text panels or charts?
    nope
finally i find it in OTHER WIDGETS
    bloody hell
somebodyput a simple find facility in there pls!!!!!!

the table facility is actually pretty cool
i didnt get the colour theme thing to work but that my fault wot with me being thick an all
all in all its a cool little dynamic table wodget
    give it a whirl
i'll be using it onl my websiets from now for sure
If someone tried to make me dig my own grave I would say No.

If the literal question asked ("Is there an easy way to create a text table - like a table in word") is actually answered...

The answer is an emphatic NO.

In fact, creating a table in Xara--widget or no widget--is not like in anything else. The widget is mainly useful for web tables. Even so, I would say it is marginally useful. But the widget is not useful for print work. So work-arounds still apply for people wanting to use Xara for a total solution work-flow.

Glad (generally) composite source material in other applications.

Here is an older Xara Xone Guest Tutorial http://www.xaraxone.com/guest/guest82/ that shows how you can create tables in Xara.

Did someone maybe tried to paste tables created from Word? Theoretically XDPX9 should be compatible with the .docx format

Gary, that "create tables in Xara" article is a nice looking table.

But it is faster to start with a table that comes from Excel or LibreOffice, or Word. It isn't all about the end product, it is getting to the end product that is ill-conceived (indeed, missing) in Xara.

    cshez,

Look at the screen shot I attached. In the red highlighted area is a Word DOCX imported file that contains a calendar. The "real" looking calendar to the right is how it looks in Word and is pasted as Rich Text in XDP.

That's a very useful tip, Mike. My import looked similar to yours. My copy and paste as RTF (from excel or word) was more ragged than your example, but was easily corrected by adding tabs.
The borders and fills all disappeared, of course.
    XDPro Help states:
"You can easily import a Microsoft Word document (.docx). Simply drag and drop the file from Windows Explorer, or else select "File" > "Import"." I like the word "simply"!

I designed a solution that works for me: http://www.talkgraphics.com/showthre...Dynamic-Tables using the technology around Stretchy Buttons.
