Default Designer Pro X9 - Text resize problem

If I type some text, then select the 'Selector Tool', then use the middle 'bounds handles' to resize.
I would expect the text to be stretched.
But, what I get is resizing in both horizontal and vertical directions. As if I was using the corner 'bounds handles'.

It works as I would expect in Designer Pro X.

Is there a setting I've missed somewhere?

Hi Rik, This is part of the new text resizing behaviour in Version 9. If you want to stretch or squash your text you have to group it first.

shift key constrains the stretching in the direction dragged.

As I don't like the philosophy behind the need for grouping a single entity to squish/stretch text, just unlock the padlock to stretch/distort text.

    I think you'll find it doesn't in DPX9.

@Mike: Unlocking the aspect padlock doesn't work for text areas or columns in DPX9.

I almost never do text areas...so thanks.

A registry switch to return the prior behavior might have been a nice way of dealing with the issue of former/present behavior.

But then, I also don't personally squish/stretch the text strings I do use...

There is, and we've added it to XaReg2.4 - General Tab>> 'Smart Transform'

I have a tendency to forget to lock the darned thing again and wind up stretching text I don't want to, but yes the aspect ratio button is a good way to do this for print if you aren't using text areas or columns. However if you are planning on exporting as a website or a new web document you need to group the text which forces Xara to export it as an image as most browsers can't display text that's squashed and the program doesn't auto export text as an image when the aspect ratio is changed.

Cool Steve! Might actually try it again. Never could use it when I switched to win 64-bit. Just wouldn't run and manually edited the registry for the few things I altered.

I really don't understand the reason for the change.
If you want the text to enlarge or reduce in size in both directions, then use the corner 'bounds handles'.

Here was a reason for me to try XaReg.
But, it doesn't seem to make any difference - whether 'Smart Transform' is ticked or not.
