Bug: XDP9: Stretching text (not working)

I restarted Xara and this time it didn't behave this way. I tried recreating all the steps when I posted this but can't reproduce this behavior when I follow my own steps. I looked at the bottom of the screen to confirm it was a text, not a group when I could stretch it. If I ever can reproduce this problem I will be posting back here. Please delete or move this post as you see fit. Thanks Sledger.

Alternatively, if you don't want to group it just adjust the aspect ratio in the Text Tool.

you dont have to group it at all
just click the padlock again and stretching reverts to previous behaviour

Seems to be an anomaly. I can't reproduce it here either.

On the upside, this new behavior seems like a very good thing when working with text boxes. Bravo.

Perhaps you changed the "Smart Transform" setting with XaReg2 to have the text-box handling as in previous versions of Designer but I can only squash or stretch text in version 9 when it is grouped and I use the selector tool with the aspect ratio unlocked. Of course, Pete's solution also allows you to do this when using the text tool but then you have to enter a new value manually in the aspect ratio box.

nope - xdpx9 without xareg
i noticed the difference in stretching text as soon as i downloaded xdpx9 and worked out to use the padlock to transform with or without proportional as required
i wasn't aware anybody else saw it differently tbh

If the text is in a text box or column, grouping is necessary but not otherwise. Everything seems to work as described in help in my case.

youre absolutely right
i hadnt noticed it in a text line or box because frankly id never resize text that way
it certainly doesnt bother me either way
i wonder if somebody from xara could tell us the rationale for changing this behaviour

I think one of the main reasons could well have been the problems many people have run into when resizing text areas (using the selector tool) in their web designs.
Often it would happen that text became slightly squashed in one direction which while it looked fine in Designer it of course would not render that way in browsers.
The result was that text areas when published would exceed (overflow) the expected area and spoil the design, of course - this is not WYSIWYE (expect) and thus has lead to many support queries.
The new behaviour of re-flowing text in columns or text areas when using the Selector tool solves this problem.
